- Three model grades, up to 614km of claimed driving range

The 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric car will go on sale in Australia later this months priced from $74,000 plus on-road costs.
The second model in Hyundai's range of Ioniq electric vehicles, the Ioniq 6 is the company's rival for the top-selling Tesla Model 3, with a choice of three model grades offering up to 239kW, and 614km of claimed driving range.
It is priced from $74,000 plus on-road costs for the entry-level, rear-wheel-drive Dynamiq – and extends to the all-wheel-drive, top-of-the-range Epiq priced from $88,000 plus on-road costs.
Mirroring the related Ioniq 5 electric car, the new Ioniq 6 is expected to be sold online at fixed prices – with customers able to order the vehicle through limited allocations of cars released on Hyundai's website.
While the cars will be sold online – bypassing dealerships as the point of sale – customers will take delivery of the car from a network of selected Hyundai showrooms, and will service the car at the dealership.
Hyundai Australia said in July 2022 it expects stock to be similar to the Ioniq 5 – of which about 600 have been made available in the past six months. The first batch of Ioniq 6s is due to open for orders on February 22.
The list prices for the Hyundai Ioniq 6 range are higher than an estimate of $70,000 to $80,000 range indicated by Hyundai Australia last year – and the entry price is $10,100 dearer than a base-model Tesla Model 3.
However, the entry-grade Hyundai offers more driving range, a longer warranty, and similar or higher standard feature levels than the Tesla.
The top-of-the-range Ioniq 6 Epiq – with camera-based 'digital' side mirrors and a heat pump – costs about $10,000 more than a Tesla Model 3 Long Range, which offers similar features but greater performance and driving range.
Powering all Hyundai Ioniq 6 models in Australia is a 77.4kWh battery pack, which enables the longest driving ranges of any Hyundai or Kia electric car, thanks to a slippery 0.21Cd drag coefficient.
The Dynamiq is powered by one rear-mounted electric motor developing 168kW/350Nm, good for a claimed 0-100km/h time of 7.4 seconds, and 614km of claimed driving range on Europe's WLTP lab-test protocol.
Meanwhile, the Techniq and Epiq add a 74kW/255Nm front electric motor for all-wheel drive and combined outputs of 239kW/605Nm, claimed to deliver a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.1 seconds, and 519km of claimed WLTP driving range.
Hyundai claims a 10 to 80 per cent recharge time of "as little as" 18 minutes, on a 350kW ultra-fast DC charger.
The car measures measures 4855mm long, 1880mm wide and 1495mm tall, with a 2950mm wheelbase – similar in length and width to Hyundai’s petrol-powered Sonata, but with 50mm lower to the road, and 110mm longer between the wheels.
Standard features in the entry-level Ioniq 6 Dynamiq include 18-inch alloy wheels, dual 12.3-inch screens, heated power-adjustable front seats, adaptive LED headlights, a Bose premium stereo, leather-appointed seats, a head-up display, and a full suite of advanced safety technology.
The Techniq model adds dual-motor all-wheel drive, 20-inch alloy wheels (with performance tyres), front 'relaxation' seats, front-seat ventilation, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and a sunroof (but a smaller front under-bonnet storage area).
Sitting atop the range is the Epiq, which adds camera-based digital side 'mirrors', a heat pump (which repurposes waste battery heat to warm the cabin), and a battery conditioning system (used in cold climates to prepare the battery for fast charging, to optimise charging speed).
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is fitted with the company's Bluelink suite of connected-car features – including an SOS function, remote cabin heating, valet mode, and calendar integration – and debuts over-the-air updates for Hyundai in Australia.
