The updated 2024 BMW X5 large SUV will be hit with price rises of $8000 to $10,000 when the updated model arrives in Australian showrooms between July and September 2023.

Revealed this morning, the facelifted X5 introduces a mild makeover on the outside, and an upgraded dashboard inside, and mild-hybrid technology under the bonnet across the range.

Prices have risen by $8000 to $10,000 – or up to seven per cent – across the range, to coincide with the increases in standard equipment and technology.

It represents the latest in a succession of price rises for the BMW X5 in recent years, which has seen the X5 xDrive 30d model increase in price by more than $20,000 in four years – from $112,990 plus on-road costs in early 2019.

The new M60i – which replaces the M50i – is about $23,000 dearer than an equivalent vehicle, the X5 M50d diesel (which was offered before the introduction of the M50i in late 2019), in early 2019.

Standard features new to the X5 xDrive 30d for 2024 – the entry-level variant, after the cheaper xDrive 25d was axed in recent months – include illuminated front grilles, a synthetic leather-look dashboard, enlarged touchscreen, and an in-built dash-cam function.

As reported previously by Drive, the updated X5 receives a restyled front end with new grilles, slimmer headlights, a new lower front bumper, and revised tail-light graphics.

Inside, there is BMW's latest twin-screen dashboard with a 12.3-inch digital instrument screen and 14.9-inch touchscreen, offering Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite navigation, and support for a digital smartphone-based key.

Four engines will be available in Australia – two petrol, one diesel and a plug-in hybrid – until the X5 M arrives at a later date.

All models receive 48-volt mild-hybrid systems, which can deliver an additional 9kW and 200Nm under hard acceleration, or to keep the car moving and allow to switch off under low accelerator load. An eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is standard across the range.

The xDrive 40i upgrades its 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines to produce 280kW and 540Nm (up 35kW/90Nm, when the mild-hybrid system's outputs are included) – while the xDrive 30d uses a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo diesel engine developing 210kW and 650Nm (up 15kW/30Nm).

The M60i replaces the M50i, but the outputs from its twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine are unchanged at 390kW and 750Nm, for a claimed 0-100km/h time of 4.3 seconds.

Meanwhile, the xDrive 45e has been upgraded to become the xDrive 50e, with a 230kW turbo 3.0-litre petrol inline-six (an increase of 30kW), and a 145kW electric motor (up 62kW) for total outputs of 360kW and 700Nm (up 70kW/100Nm over the 45e).

It also receives a larger battery pack – up 3.4kWh to 25.7kWh – which is claimed to deliver 94km to 110km of WLTP driving range.

The 2024 BMW X5 is due in Australia in the third quarter of 2023 (July to September).
