We purchased the H6 after test driving the HAVAL range. We were impressed by the level of features, build quality and value for money. Buying a Chinese made vehicle was a change after owning a Jeep, Land Rover, Ford, Holden and Toyota. The 5 year warranty helped us feel a little more secure. We will have to wait and see how the re-sale value works out.
The vehicle has performed well in a variety of conditions. The heated seats front and rear have been a treat during winter and the leg room in the passenger seats is generous. The safety features are very useful, including the reversing camera, side parking camera and the blind spot warning system.
The engine performs well in all modes, standard, eco and sports. Using the paddle shifters in sports mode and flicking through the gears is smooth and a whole lot of fun. The throaty sound of the turbocharged 2.0 litre engine accelerating in sports mode is also appealing.
We have found the most common reaction to the HAVAL from friends and people in general is, "what's a HAVAL?" or, "Who makes HAVAL?" "It's Chinese," we say waiting for the awkward silence that often follows. Have a look inside. Nearly alway the response goes something like, "Wow it's really well finished. If you hadn't told me it was Chinese I would have thought it was European." That's what we thought and that's why we forked out the money.
We have owned the car for over 12 months now and haven't had a single problem. It's reliable and the interior hasn't shown any sign of deterioration. I have owned a lot of cars over the years and I can't remember ever looking at one after having it for over 12 months and still thinking to myself, "that's a really nice looking car!" HAVAL ran an ad campaign at one stage that said something like, "you'll love every drive'. I remember thinking, 'that sounds like classic ad spin. But I have to say, I do love every drive even after a year of ownership.
I recently test drove the new H9 ULTRA and was really impressed. This may be our next family vehicle.
