2013 Nissan Patrol Ti-L (4x4) Review

My y62 is my 4th patrol and best yet 15ltrs per 100 average. This is the first question asked by anyone asking about how i like it, yes it is on the large size and not carpark freindly would not recommend if using for weekly shopping trips around town but put it in the country where it belongs and you have a very comfortable and capable vehicle. Towing a 2 ton yacht at the speed limit up every hill on the hume highway not dropping a kilometer in speed came in with 21ltrs per 100 and with power to spare. Better than the old 4.8 petrol that had an average of 21ltrs per 100 then plus. If you like to go offroad using 21ltrs and the only downfall has been scraping its belly over humps, larger diameter tyres would fix this. The only other minor complaints i have are the seat heater dials very small and hard to see if on or off but will live with this and have found it to be very fussy with fuel only liking 98 if not avaliable and 95 is used won't rev out like having a speed limiter fitted this has been a bit frustrating when overtaking. The reliability of a larger petrol motor won me over even with the extra fuel usage, by the problems heard of the smaller 4 cylinder motors with turbos and common rail diesels working hard and having very expensive rebuild costs. Love the ease at which it does everything off road, onroad and towing. The awesome power on tap whenever you need it, an after market exhaust to make the most of the glorious v8 sound which puts a smile on your dial, very happy overall.
2001 Nissan Patrol Ti (4x4) Review

I am a 18 yo boy living in Melbourne and the very proud owner of a 2001 Patrol. I brought this 2 years ago with 50,000kms on the clock. I decided I was going to try beef it up to be the ultimate off roader. With a huge 4.8L V8 diesel, it not shy with the performance. it gets me out of most tricky situations with ease. When i bought it, it had no accessories at all, i added a ARB front & rear bumper + winch and gave it a 4" lift. Tuned the engine to about 300kW and 700Nm, I put 35's on it with a -44 offset.(+air lockers) Also put side sliders on with & a roof cargo carrier in which i usually put fuel, skid plates etc. I have had to change a few things for it to cope with the upgraded power! Alright enough with the mods.... One thing that i found disappointing was the technology and connectivity. It is horribly old fashioned and rough. although i've put a 5" LCD screen in the infotainment area, i still am tired of the dated interior. I feel this is a weak point in this vehicle. Other than that i think this car is a top machine. The 5 speed manual is pretty easy to live with, maybe a little harder in the tricky situations, so i can't really fault this. overall this is a very good car, it gets me from A to B with having as much fun as possible. I dont usually take the patrol into the city as the tyres would have a bit of a hard time. It also rides pretty well considering the lift, tyres and other accessories. Thanks
2014 Nissan Patrol ST-L (4x4) Review

Having compared the new St-L Y62 to the 200 series equivalent GXL. (The VX model cruiser is closer spec'd to the Y62 Ti, and Sahara to the Ti-L. This to give you a more accurate price comparisson. Unlike the official review that compares a GXL to a Ti) 1st. Everyone bangs on about fuel economy. Well the cruiser is prob the only vehicle you would compare to a y62. No1 seems to compare the petrol varient to the y62. Thats because u really cant. The 5.6lt v8 is just that much better. So compare it to the twin turbo diesel. Hwy driving both stock cars sees the y62 infront on fuel economy. Towing and offroad would see a swing the other way of a cpl lts per 100. Hardly enough to honestly say u would save bulk $$$ driving a cruiser diesel around. Lets not forget. The guys test driving these cars arnt driving it like an owner would day to day. They use the 400 ponies and as a result the y62 leaves the cruiser in its review mirror. Not to mention its a smoother quieter ride. My overall avg fuel usage is 15.4lts/100. At least 10k kms of my 48k kms was done offroad on either beaches or bush tracks. 2nd. Ifs and irs. Definitely positives imo. Having had 7 4x4s now the Y62 handles the bitumen that much better. I test drove both cruiser and y62 on the same horrid road on the same day. Let me tell u that was enough for me to cancel the cruiser i was ready to sign up for and hungrily chase down a price on the patrol. 3rd. Both cars are great, dont get me wrong. But when im looking at payin luxury tax on a car im not gona just pay for a brand name cos thats what every1 else has bought. I got a price of $94k drive away for my gxl cruiser. Same extras and i walked away with my St-l for $67k. 4th. Servicing. I have saved hundreds of dollars not goin to nissan. I still get a quality handbook service using original parts feom my local mechanic. And each service has so far been way cheaper then my avg services for any of my previous GU patrols. 5th. Interior. While i agree more needs to be done with the infotainment on the Patrol, the i teriors are definitly more refined the its equivalent in a cruiser. Leather everywhere and not much plastic look. Some dont lime the fake qoodgrain but thats a personal preference also. To sum up i guess. Ive taken my car from central queensland to melb high country (see aprils edition of 4x4 aust for a write uo of that trip) ive done fraser, byfield almost fortnightly, and will be crossing the Simpson in sept doing the Qaa and French lines then up the Tanami to spend a week or so cruising around the kimberlies. This will futher show that petrols can go remote. Ppl forget some of the most capable 4x4s for offroading are petrol only. And without all the restrictions the new diesels have there are less problems with petrols. Who wants to risk a $15k bill for injectors or a blown turbo. Granted these are in now way a prolific problem. They are however common on modern day diesels. So factoring the cost of both vehicle to buy. Fuel use isnt even worth discussing in my opinion. The test drive will sell the y62.
