Global Ford boss criticises his engineers for being inefficient

In a startling revelation, the global boss of Ford says rival car companies get the same amount of work done with fewer engineers.

The global boss of Ford has criticised the brand's engineers, claiming the company is inefficient because rival car companies employ fewer engineers and yet deliver similar results.

In a startling revelation – first reported by German publication Automobilwoche – Ford CEO Jim Farley told a recent podcast he believes Ford engineers aren't as efficient as those working for other car companies.

"It takes us 25 per cent more engineers to do the same work statements as our competitors," Mr Farley said on the Cars & Culture with Jason Stein podcast.

"I can’t afford to be 25 percent less efficient," he added.

Ford sacked approximately 3000 workers last year. News agency Bloomberg reported in July 2022 a total of up to 8000 job cuts were expected.

The latest comments appear to be a warning shot to Ford engineers to improve productivity or their positions could be in danger.

Ford posted a $US2 billion ($AU2.88 billion) loss for 2022, which it says was largely due to parts-supply restrictions – which had the knock-on effect of slowing showroom deliveries.
