Four new Nissan models due in next 18 months
Nissan says it plans to introduce four new models in the next 18 months – including a hybrid small SUV and a hardcore off-road SUV flagship.
Japanese car giant Nissan says it plans to introduce four new vehicles in Australian showrooms in the next 18 months.
This follows a new-model offensive in the second half of 2022, which saw new generations of the Nissan Qashqai, X-Trail and Pathfinder SUVs, a hybrid 'e-Power' version of the X-Trail, and the new Z sports car.
Speaking to media at the launch of the hybrid X-Trail e-Power, Nissan Australia managing director Adam Paterson said: “In the next 18 months we’ll have another four new products in Nissan showrooms.”
Mr Paterson's comments refer to four new vehicles in addition to the four new models introduced by Nissan in 2022: the Nissan Z sports car, Nissan Pathfinder large SUV, Nissan X-Trail medium SUV, and Nissan Qashqai small SUV.
Nissan has previously confirmed plans to launch the Nissan Patrol Warrior off-road flagship, and an e-Power hybrid version of the Qashqai small SUV. Both these new model variants are due to arrive in the second half of 2023.
This leaves two unknown slots on Nissan’s launch calendar. Mr Paterson wouldn’t be drawn on what to expect when asked by Drive.
“There [are] two that have been confirmed, and the other two we're not going to confirm. Those two that we've confirmed are Patrol Warrior and … e-Power Qashqai.”
One option is the next-generation Nissan Navara ute – replacing today's model, which dates back to 2014 – which documentation seen by Drive points towards a launch towards the end of next year.
When asked by Drive, Mr Paterson refused to comment on timing for the next-generation Navara: "I still think the current facelift is quite fresh. [Navara] Warrior is a little over a year old, which is still fairly fresh.
"There's been lots of animation to the product in the market to make it different than perhaps it was first launched with."
Other options – which are yet to be announced by Nissan – include a high-performance Nismo version of the new Nissan Z, or the Nissan Ariya electric SUV, if it is given the green light for Australia.
