Inside the Porsche dream factory

Few brands excite enthusiasts like Porsche. Constant refinement of its core product, and its ability to apply its DNA to new segments, means you don’t have to be a car person to appreciate what the brand stands for.
2012 Porsche Cayenne Diesel review
Owner Review | 22 Jun 2019
I was drawn to this car for the space. The size is perfect to meet my current needs. But after that, the positives just kept coming. When I first test drove the car I expected it to feel like a truck. Big, 8-speed, diesel SUV would surely be loud and heavy. That was a big mistake. I was shocked at how quiet it was (not silent, but quiet for a diesel), and it didn't feel heavy at all. What I did feel, to my excitement, was the grip to the road that gave me that feeling that I was truly driving a performance car. The ease at which it moves around corners and winding roads is beautiful. And, despite the size, its ability to perform against some of the smaller sports cars (especially when put into Sports mode) when taking off is sensational. Performance-wise this car is amazing. Size-wise this car is perfect for me and all the family and work things I need to throw into it. I have a car seat in the back and can still comfortably fit two other adults in the back seat. The boot is great. Even with the back seats up, there is so much cabin space. I have hiking backpacks, school equipment, scooters, two large dogs, and lots of re-useable shopping bags. Size is not an issue in this car for me and my outdoorsy family of four. One of my other favourite little things I love in this car - the fact that when I hold the lock key down it locks my car and shuts all my windows. And when I hold it on unlocked it not only unlocks my car but brings the windows down as well. This is great for those hot days when you want some fresh air in the car before getting in or when you have kids that jump out of the car without doing their windows up. The only negative for this car and where it has the most room for improvement is the infotainment system. I don't need anything too fancy becuase i care more about the performance and safety before whether the car can play my iTunes folder or can self-park. But the reverse camera is very dull and not as clear and crisp as a lot of other car models (like the Audior Range Rover). It is also difficult (and sometimes not even possible) to navigate through the touch screen by using the side panels on the steering wheel so with an infotainment system that isn't overly user-friendly then it can be quite tedious when you have kids in the backseat wanting to flick through radio stations to try and find a song they like. Being a 2012 model the other improvements which have already happened that my car lacks are some amazing safety features that are now available. I am sure the recent Porsche's have improved on those features as well. I was told by a client that once i went for a Porchse Cayenne i would never change to an alternate Brand of car. I think they were right - because when my ultimate sized car gives me amazing performance as well there's just no reason why I would change.
2013 Porsche Cayenne Diesel Review
Owner Review | 20 Jul 2016
EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH IT This car is now 3 years old and done 63,000 km. It still drives, feels and looks like new. There have been no problems with it. Nothing has broken or fallen of, no squeaks or rattles, the leather shows no signs of wear, the doors still close with a rock solid thunk. This car is so well made you can see where the ridiculously high price has been invested. RUNNING COSTS Across normal suburban driving with some motorway work I average 8.9 lt per km. Normal annual services cost $700, Major service (60,000km) cost $3,600 including some break repairs. Tyres cost $700 each (Michelin 21") but have lasted 60,000km which is great for such a heavy vehicle. PERFORMANCE Huge amounts of torque from turbo diesel gives vary rapid acceleration at almost any speed. I have had high performance cars in the past and this is quicker than I expected from an SUV. At 110kph the engine peacefully ticks over at 1,800 revs. The steering is sports car direct with a lovely feel, the handling is car like. When I am on my own I don't need to slow down much for corners and the car doesn't roll much and it sticks to the road like the proverbial. This is a great car to do big miles in. COMFORT AND FACILITIES Electric memory 14 way front seats are comfy but if I had specified this car myself I would have ordered the 18 way sport seats which are amazing. Storage space at the front is limited. Auto wipers, lights etc work well. Touch operated stereo and sat nav screen works well though map programme picks some strange routes sometimes. Other functions (aircon, screen display etc) are run by buttons and knobs which is much better than the horrid mouse controllers on BMWs, Mercedes. Back seats are comfy and easy to lay flat to extend load area which is a good size. Power push button tail gate works well. Once moving the diesel engine is quiet enough but when idling you can hear its a diesel. OVERALL Pretty hard to fault this car and I will be happy to keep it until the service costs become prohibitive. This is my first Porsche but probably not my last.
