He’s a world champion athlete in two sports, an Australian of the Year, a motivational speaker and keen driver – join us as we get to know Dylan Alcott on the road to the Australian Open

Dylan Alcott has achieved world champion status in both basketball and tennis, he has represented Australia at the Olympic Games and is the 2022 Australian of the Year.
He’s also a keen driver and a Kia ambassador.
Join Emma this weekend on Channel 9 for The Road to the Open with Dylan Alcott, our first ‘human-centric’ Drive TV story where we learn more about Dylan, as well as the role that cars play in his life.
Dylan shares with the audience the road to his success including taking viewers back to where it all began and serving up a few expert tennis and basketball tips to Emma along the way. And while Dylan can give Emma a run for her money in the Kia EV6, we’re pretty sure Dylan’s titles are safe from Emma on the tennis court.
While on the road, we show how advances in automotive technology, like the remote parking technology offered by the Kia Sportage and Sorento, offers a surprisingly powerful benefit for Dylan, for whom tight parking spaces and lack of access to the car’s door and boot can pose a real problem.
For many people with a disability, a car is a hugely important tool. As we learn in the show, Dylan (with the help of some simple but clever devices) can quickly configure any car with an automatic transmission to drive within minutes.
The use of portable driver hand controls means that Dylan, as well as other disabled drivers, are able to use cars other than their own (e.g. rental cars when travelling) for ease of mobility.
More permanent hand control systems can also be fitted to almost any car, with the exception of those with a knee airbag, to allow even greater control from behind the wheel. It’s worth noting the majority of these systems enable the car to be driven normally, as well as with the hand controls, and are fitted in a way that is completely reversible.
Season 4 of Drive TV will be back on air on Channel 9, Sunday 19 February at 1.00 pm, so until then, join Emma and Dylan as they spend time along the Road to the Open.
